Vic:Dupas should get no parole life term: prosecutor
MELBOURNE, Aug 21 AAP - The man convicted of the mutilation murder of a Melbourne psychotherapist
should be sentenced to life imprisonment with no minimum term, the Supreme Court was told
today.
Crown prosecutor Geoff Horgan told a pre-sentencing hearing that the killing on which
Peter Norris Dupas, 47, had been convicted was one of extreme depravity with no extenuating
circumstances.
He said the murder had been "calculated and well planned in advance" and there was
a total absence of remorse.
Dupas' own barrister David Brustman agreed that the appropriate sentence was one of
life, but asked Justice Frank Vincent to consider fixing a minimum term.
Dupas, who has a record of rape convictions and spent more than 20 years in jail, was
last week convicted of the murder of 28-year-old Nicole Patterson.
Her mutilated body was discovered lying on the floor of her Northcote home on April 18 last year.
She had been stabbed 27 times.
Justice Vincent will sentence Dupas tomorrow.
